I still remember the very first word of Urdu I ever learned. It was the word for dance, and when I learned it, I thought it was a word in Malay since I still thought my then-boyfriend was from Brunei.
We'd gone to eat at Taco Bell for lunch one day. While we were standing in line, M looked up at the menu board and smiled. Then he turned to me and told me that the word for dance in his language was on the menu board. "Nacho," he said. "It means dance, but like you're ordering someone to do it, like 'Hey you, DANCE! Nacho!'"
Now, everytime we eat Taco Bell I think about that. And do a little dance :)

or in a more polite requesting way NAACHEIN :)
ahhaha that's really funny.
:)
you can also say "NAACH"
which is an impolite way of ordering someone to dance!
This is cute. The Punjabi word is very similar and one day I cooked some potatoes and topped them with nacho toppings (because I had nothing better and I didn't want plain potatoes) and told Papa ji they were nacho potatoes. He got such a laugh about the dancing potatoes. They were good though!
Hey Gori Wife, just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed reading your blog - I was born in KHI & am married to my California honey. I stumbled upon your blog by accident & have spent the last few days catching up on your old posts. Your stories are so entertaining!
