What Do I Need From Pakistan?

Quick, everyone!

What do I need from Pakistan? Here's my preliminary list:

Books of mehndi designs and cones
Shalwar kameez and kurtas for the baby
A old-man style navy blue waistcoat for the baby to wear on Eid
Ammi's homemade Same ka Achaar
Urdu books for the baby
Urdu books for adults to read, too

There is a lot of stuff I'm forgetting. My memory isn't very good under pressure! When you have someone coming to visit it means you get at least a suitcase full of stuff, but I can't remember what I'd like to have! I mean, if I'm walking through the streets shopping in the bazaars, that's a different story; I can fill up a suitcase in a matter of minutes!

So, gimme some ideas, what should I ask for? Because get this - I don't know how this happened - but somehow *I* suggested that my MIL should come visit, and she's already purchased a plane ticket. Touchdown in three weeks.

At least YOU all will get plenty of stories to read, I guess...

Well ... if you want to make a little side business, you could have her bring in some semi-precious gemstone beads and cabochons and set up an Etsy store. Lapis lazuli, turquoise, silver beads, etc. are in high demand and you could make a killing! (don't mind me, I'm a jewelry designer, so it was the first thing I thought of!)

How about bangles? One can never have too many!

If you dress up alot then there is gorgeous jewelry (artifical) that can be matched with every outfit.

What about ready-made shalwar kameez? I know my relatives take suitcases and suitcases packed with clothes..

Umm.. frozen sheermaal?? :D:D:D

artificial jewelery and bangles for your (really advanced) Eid shopping...

Can't think of anything else you can't get over there only..!

How can you leave out illegal DVDs, haha.

I'd recommend the following reads by Mohsin Hamid, my favorite Pakistani author:
Moth Smoke
The Reluctant Fundamentalist

Kamila Shamsie's Kartography is worth a read if you're a hopeless romantic.

Some funky sandals would be a good idea given the arrival of summer.

All the best :)

We're leaving today! I'm bringing back home decor stuff (pillow cushions, wall hangings, maybe some rugs). If I have time I want to get curtains made for my bedroom. (And hopefully get some jewellry ;) ).

Books. DVDs. Clothes. Jewelry.

Oh maybe you should ask your MIL to get lots of patience too. Enough for everyone preferably :)

Do you read Urdu??

I like these Pakistani English language women's magazines like She and Women's Own. You could ask your MIL to pick a couple up for you. You might find them interesting.
