(We applied on the basis on my graduation - we wanted them to attend the graduation and party afterwards, but now it seems they might miss it if their passports with visa don't arrive in time. Their original US visa was on the basis of M's graduation, but I thought that the Embassy workers would be a little more hesitant to give a visa for a daughter-in-law's graduation as opposed to their own son's. Of course it's helpful that Ammi has traveled here 3 times in the last 5 years, and never overstayed her visits and always returned. And Abbu is still employed in Pakistan. He's retired but returned to the teaching that he'd done part-time while he was still working. I'm just happy because with a five-year, multiple entry visa, if and when we have a 2nd kid, Ammi will be able to come.)

How long did it take for them to get approved? My FIL's visa has been in administrative processing for over a year now. Looking for some light at the end of the tunnel...
Hmm... They only sent in their applications (in Karachi) a few weeks ago and got an interview date right away (for Islamabad.) They went to Islamabad and got approved right there during the interview. They won't really be coming for months, though.
Hope your FIL's visa comes through soon. I'm not sure what the difference is, Ammi and Abbu have never had their visas in any "administrative processing" for either of their visas.
It's all in the name (administrative processing) and how many previous visas the person has had. . .the first visa is hardest, but if it is a really common name it can be hard every time :-(
Congrats! That's great.
alhamdulillah.. insha'allah she can come help with baby 2 :D
Lovely
visas... :-((( My fianceƩ's visa was rejected two days ago, altough he did his Phd in this country and stayed here for the past five years. Fortress Europe! :-((((( I am happy your family got it right away. We had to wait for 4 weeks and then nothing.. a stupid tourist visa... :-(((
They had the interview and were told that their visa was approved and that it would be sent to them via courier as soon as the adminstrative processing was completed on it. So technically they have been approved, but my fil is still in administrative processing. My mil received her passport back with the visa after about 6-7 months of administrative processing. They have both traveled to the U.S. at least 5-6 times each over the past 40 years, they were students here in the 50's and visited at least 5 times since 2002, and returned to Pakistan each time. I don't get what is going on now :(...
I'm glad your in-laws got theirs so quick, they are among the lucky ones!
Mashallah you are so so lucky to have them come here.
Right now I am a little jealous of you and your relationship with them. But jealous in a good way. Before my MIL passed my hubby and I wanted to apply for her to come, but there were some family issues so we never got around to it. To this day I think about what would it be like if she was here. Have an amazing time with them. They are so lucky to be coming to see their grandson. May Allah bless you all and have a great time.
